How Did The Dark Knight Joker Get His Scars?
In the movie he gives two reasons why he has scars in the shape of a smile. Whats suppose to be the real reason in the movie?
Well the writers put in the multiple stories of the scar’s origins to further portray the Joker’s insanity, but I don’t like short answers so to fill the space, I’m gonna take this opportunity to quote both the “reasons” given in the film…
Reason number 1-
“You wanna know how I got these scars? My father was a drinker and a fiend. Then, one night, he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn’t like that. Not…one…bit. So, me watching, he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it. Then, he looks at me and says, ‘Why so serious?’ Comes at me with the knife, ‘Why so SERIOUS?’ Sticks the blade in my mouth, ‘Let’s put a smile on that face.’ And…why so serious?”
Reason number 2-
“You look nervous. Is it the scars? You wanna know how I got ‘em? Come here, hey, look at me. So I had a wife, beautiful, like you. Who tells me I worry to much. Who tells me I oughta smile more. Who gambles and gets in deep with the sharks. Hey, one day they carve her face. We have no money for surgeries, she can’t take it. I just wanna see her smile again. I just want her to know that I don’t care about the scars. So I stick a razor in my mouth…and do this…to myself. And you know what? She can’t stand the sight of me! She leaves. Now I start to see the funny side. Now I’m always smiling.”
Would have been reason number 3 if Batman didn’t attack him-
“Can’t rely on anyone these days. You always gotta do everything yourself, don’t we? That’s okay, I came prepared. It’s a funny world we live in. Speaking of which, do you know how I got these scars?”
